LittleStars

Pre-K Little Stars – ages 3-5
This program contains projects that will serve as an introduction to Camp Fire and are designed to excite and educate children on a wide range of topics. The program helps build confidence, form lasting relationships and gain a sense of belonging and a feeling of emotional commitment by adults, both inside and outside the family circle.
We offer opportunities for the entire family to belong and join together in fun and enriching activities. We encourage family members, older youth and members of the community to routinely interact with the children. Family activities are an important part of the Little Stars program.
The foundation for our small group program is to build confidence in children. Activities that expose young children to music, listening skills, nature, their community, nutrition and dramatic play, contribute to a developing sense of identity and personal confidence. Activities need to reflect their physical and social needs and abilities because the developmental needs and interests of Pre-K children are unique.

Dscvry

 Discovery – 6th Grade thru 8th Grade
This program is designed for youth in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. It is flexible and adaptable to the ever changing needs and interests of youth. Youth groups may choose to use the whole program or just part of it. This offers an opportunity for youth to discover new information about themselves and others. One of the key components is the emphasis on youth participation in decision making and leadership. Youth roles in decision making and governance increase as they grow and develop.
Youth decision making increases with each level. Assessment of individual youth skills, interests and needs is part of the program. Youth need practical experience in assuming leadership roles to be effective leaders. In addition to leadership, the program provides a structure and process for skill development. It creates an increased understanding of self, family, community, the environment, creative expression, leisure activities and the future in a world of technology and business growth.
As the levels increase, the projects become more elaborate and youth are given increased leadership opportunities. There are three levels to Discovery: Path Finder, Trail Blazer, and Navigator.

Teens are given the opportunity to create and build their own horizons, or their own futures. “Highlight” activities are designed to examine ideas, values, morals and experiences. Four “Reflection” projects provide focus for teens on self; choices and decisions; future goals and planning; and self-reliance skills. Teens typically begin working toward the Wohelo Award in Horizon.

Teens in Action – 9th Grade thru 12th Grade
This program is built on Camp Fire USA’s long tradition of recognizing youth as part of the solution to, and not the problem with, today’s social challenges. Programs of this nature inspire and honor community responsibility, contribute to the future of American volunteerism and encourage a sense of caring for others.
The principles are based on youth-adult partnerships and learning through empowering experiences. Its intent is to build strong ties between the teens and their families, schools and communities, and put a spotlight on issues of concern to youth. The concept is that young people are the key to the future and making a difference in the world.
Youth can have fun, relax with their friends, work with caring adults, and at the same time stand up for something they believe in. They exchange ideas, discuss issues, determine community needs, develop strategies and participate in decisions that govern the organization. Groups research and select service-learning challenges they wish to tackle. Individuals are encouraged to identify personal quests and create their own action plans for mastering them.
Working with adult partners in a mentoring relationship, teens develop confidence and leadership skills as they plan and implement community service projects. Teens challenge themselves to master new skills and situations. In some states, teens may also earn credit toward graduation requirements through service learning hours.

Teen Council is a Samish Council program that allows members to meet and plan what service projects they will do each month to benefit the community.

The goal is to include at least one adult family member or a supporting adult from the community with every child who attends. Siblings of all ages, infants trhough teens are included. Developmental outcomes are identified for every age level including adults.
The first week, familes share a meal and participate in a recognition ceremony for both individual and group accomplishments, then break into age-level groups for an activity session.
The second week, the group takes part in acurriculum related field trip or a council-wide event like a campout.
The third week, the families meet for an informal activity night to work on their projects.
The fourth week is for take-home family activities which enhance the large group experience.
