BABY-SITTING BASICS – for kids in grades 5 through 8.
Learn all the basic skills needed to be a great baby-sitter! Topics include: age characteristics of children, behavior management, a first aid overview, general infant and toddler care, play ideas, safety issues, and what to do in emergency situations. This class also includes information on finding sitting jobs and how to work with parents to ensure success!
This class can be conducted in two 4 hour sessions or one full 7 hour class.
COUNT ON ME KIDS – for Kindergartners through 2nd graders.
Helps kids develop high self-esteem and a positive self-image by exploring healthy lifestyles, good decision making and encouraging children to do their best. Topics include: discovering how you’re unique and special, keeping your body strong and healthy, learning what makes you unique and special, protecting yourself, safety issues, and saying “no” to negative peer pressures.
This class is 6 hours long, and thus should be divided into 1 or 2 hour sessions.
DIFFERENT AND THE SAME – Kindergarten through 5th grade.
Through discussions, role playing, videos, and games children learn to address the complex issues of human relationships. Topics include: Identifying bias and prejudice, dealing with issues in a fair and productive way, and learning how to share feelings.
8 hour class, to be divided into 1, 2 or 4 hour sessions.
I CAN DO IT – for grades 2 through 4.
Learn basic life skills to keep healthy and safe. Topics include: answering telephone calls from strangers, fire safety, handling emergencies, and making healthy snacks. This class is a must for young children who are ever left home alone!
This 6 hour class should be divided into 1 or 2 hour sessions.
I’M PEER PROOF – grades 3 through 6.
Games and role playing make this a fun way to learn about friendship and refusal skills. Topics include: dealing with bullies, giving and receiving compliments, saying “no” to peer pressures, starting conversations and how to keep them going, honing refusal skills and still feeling good about yourself and maintaining friendships.
A 6 hour class that can be divided into 1, 2 or 3 hour sessions.
STRESS BUSTERS – designed for grades 5 through 8.
Topics include: building self confidence, dealing with disappointment, learning how to identify stress and stress causing situations, increasing communication skills, and coping with stressful situations.
4 hour class which may be divided into 1 or 2 hour blocks.
THE GIFT OF GIVING – suitable for grades K through 8.
This service learning program has been designed to encourage youth to become active and involved in their communities. Students assess community needs, plan and implement a service project, and then reflect on their experiences.
